Cancel and save flow

What it does

  • Merchants design the cancellation flow as a visual graph of steps and save offers, with a built-in default flow until they change it.

  • Save-offer selection starts from transparent defaults and adapts once a store has enough cancellation history. Merchants can also run save-offer experiments with a hold-out group, and the results come from real outcomes.

  • A save-offer experiment puts each subscriber in the same variant every time, and its report shows save rate and lift per variant only once each side has enough data.

Step by step

How it works

  1. The subscriber asks to cancel

In the portal, a subscriber who starts to cancel is asked why, then sees pause, skip and change-frequency options before the save offer and before the cancel button.

  2. Your flow chooses the step

The flow can branch on the reason the subscriber gives. A reason you have not mapped follows the default branch, and the same reason always reaches the same step.

  3. The offer is applied

A discount, gift or swap to a cheaper product is applied to the subscription in Shopify. A repeated click applies it once, and a discount never stacks on an earlier Arc save discount.

  4. The outcome is recorded

A save is recorded only when the offer was actually applied, so an offer that fails or cannot be applied never counts as a save.

Try it yourself

Give a cancellation another option.

Try the customer experience as Jon, a fictional Hearth Coffee subscriber. Pick a reason to see the merchant's offer. In the portal, a subscriber who starts to cancel is asked why, then sees pause, skip and change-frequency options before the save offer and before the cancel button.

Why are you cancelling?

Offers here are examples. The flow can branch on the reason the subscriber gives. A reason you have not mapped follows the default branch, and the same reason always reaches the same step.

What it does not do yet

Limits are listed plainly so you can judge fit before you start.

  • Discount, gift and swap offers are applied only to a subscription with a single main product line. Any other subscription is refused and left unchanged.

  • A free gift offer applies to the next order only, and it is not offered on prepaid subscriptions.

Try it with your own subscribers.
